How long have you been a model?
I have been modeling since June of 2016, so it hasn’t even been a full year for me yet. In some respects, I feel like the last 10 months feel like 1 and in others, I feel like I’ve been doing this my whole life.
How did you get into modelling?
Before I was born my dad was a glamor photographer for a while through his college years, so growing up, my dad would always take pictures of us kids; my dad and I really bonded over our mutual passion for it. One of my fondest memories is critiquing the models on America’s Next Top model with my dad and it was there that I really caught the bug and decided to model some time in my future career.
How was your first shooting? Tell us a bit about that first experience.
I am going to consider my “first shoot” as the first one I did after I decided to really be serious about modeling about 10 months ago even though I’ve been doing little armature photoshoots since I was very young. But my first shoot was a glamor/implied shoot in the rain during some of the worst storms Texas had seen in a decade, so the photographer and I decided to take full advantage of the opportunity. I brought my high school best friend with me to help out and to watch. I jumped into the shoot as if I had done 3 earlier that day, it was just so natural for me and I was having so much fun dancing around in the cold rain on a hot Texas day in June. It was love at first shot, and I haven’t been able to stop ever since!
What does modelling mean to you?
Modeling is an expression of art. As the model, my goal is 1 of 2 things (or both simultaneously). The first goal is obvious, to express my own vision, concept, or idea with a photo. The second goal and this one often get lost in translation with most models, is to be a tool for the photographer/makeup artist/fashion designer to help aid in expressing their vison or concept. As the model, it is my duty to assist and be an instrument in the big picture of the concept we are creating. As a specific color paint is but an accessory to a whole painting; it is my place to be an accessory used to create the overall work of art we are attempting to devise.
A model you particularly admire?
Gigi Hadid is the top model I am currently following but it seems so is the rest of the world right now. Gigi did something many models have been trying to do since the 90’s and early 2000’s since the real boom of the internet, and that is utilize the internet to propel their modeling career. Though many before her have tried and succeeded in a smaller scale, Gigi really revolutionized how we see modeling on the internet where as in the 90’s it would take years of runway shows and editorial shoots and making connections to get where she is, she did it in a matter of 2-3 years using social media to propel her career. She is the queen of social media in the modeling world and she is only a year older than myself. I look to her as an inspiration and a motivator to ask myself “why not me?”
If you could choose, where would you like to shoot?
My dream location would have to be a tie between the Galapagos Islands and the Inca ruins in Peru! I know those are both very unique specific locations but along with being highly artistic I am also admittedly part nerd and both the scientific and historical significance of both of those locations is that draws me to them. One day I will shoot in both places.
What is your dressing style in everyday life?
Contrary to what most people would think from seeing my pictures or seeing me at work, on a day-to-day basis I dress very tomboy-esc, usually accessorizing with a snap back. I typically don’t wear any makeup or do anything to my hair. I figure I’ll have enough opportunity in my life time to get all dolled up that I should use my time off to give my skin and hair a rest and wear comfy clothes.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
These might seem like a ‘cop-out’ answer but I want to live in as many places as I can! One dream of mine is to own dozens of tiny houses around the world and be able to travel around between houses, each one being self-sustaining.
What is happiness?
This is such an interesting question, and if there was more time you could get me going for hours on this question alone because there are so many factors that affect happiness and how people see it and use it. My own personal happiness resides in succeeding and accomplishing my personal goals. Each step forward I take, each goal I set and accomplish is the driving force for my happiness, and us as humans constantly strive for our personal happiness. Luckily for me accomplishing my goals and my accomplishing my happiness go hand in hand.
Where can we find you on a Friday night?
Typically on a Friday night I will be working as a bartender and at the slight chance I’m not doing that then most likely I am at a networking event to help boost my career. When your career is your passion then working towards accomplishing that is like having time off. When you love your job you never work a day in your life is what they always say.
What’s your next goal?
The next thing coming from me will be a demo which will be just one song from my 5 song EP I will be releasing by the end of this year. The demo will be released within the next 6 months and shortly following that will come the other 4 songs. I have so many plans for my future mapped out for the next 10 years but as for the very next goal you will be hearing music coming from Gee Vee within the next few months, so stay tuned.
