In a few words, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a people photographer based in Germany with a focus on portraits and fine art nude. In recent years, I have written two books about flash photography whereas currently, I am working on a new book about nude photography, which will be published by the end of this year. Last year, I have released my first illustrated book which will be followed by a second one in Sept. 2016. However, I have never studied photography. Instead, I was a banker for over 20 years.
How long have you been a photographer?
Photography has always been a great passion for me. I’m working as a full-time professional about five years now.
How did you discover photography?
My father, who was an ambitious hobby photographer, yet my passion and relationship to music also played a major role. I loved portraits of musicians and shots of various LP covers. My first illustrated book was shot by Jim Rakete.
How was your first photoshoot? What did you shoot?
I still vividly remember my very first photograph, it was a photograph of a duck - from behind - because the duck refused to turn around. By the way, I took this photo on a black-and-white film and afterwards developed and exposed it on my own. I still got it this print. Many years later, I started shooting with models in my cellar which I had set up as a provisional studio at that time. Fortunately, these photos were never published.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as sensual portrait photography in black-and-white and with or without clothing.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is my occupation and vocation at the same time. It allows me to express the way I see people.
What inspires you?
My biggest inspiration are the people in front of my camera. Furthermore, I love to collect illustrated books and visit photo exhibitions. They inspire me a lot.
What would you like to photograph?
People, people, people…
A photographer you particularly admire?
My major idols are Jim Rakete and Peter Lindbergh but I do not only follow big names. There are plenty of fantastic unknown photographers out there - for example the french photographer Jean-Francois Jonvelle who unfortunately already passed away.
What is happiness?
Having someone who you love, being healthy and being devoted to your job!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Key West, for sure!
What’s your next goal?
My illustrated books no. 3, 4 and 5! Further, I am planning to hold my first own exhibition next year.
