How would you describe yourself in a few words?
Solitary, facetious, open-minded.
How long have you been a model?
I really got into modeling about six months ago, but my first shoot was about a year ago.
How did you get into modeling?
I moved to a new city and needed a hobby to distract myself from the fact that I had no friends. I spent a lot of time looking at images on #Instagram and was particularly inspired by Tamara Lichtenstein’s style. I wanted to see if I could create artistic images myself since just looking at them is only so fulfilling.
How was your first shooting? Tell us a bit about that first experience.
My first shoot was with Marshall Tidrick, someone I met in college marching band. I probably sent him the most random message he’ll ever receive, something along the lines of, “I don’t know you that well, but I want to take some bodyscape type nudes. You’re a photographer, do you know anyone?” and he actually agreed to shoot with me. We set up a light in a little studio with a red backdrop and I tried to fold myself into cool shapes.
What does modelling mean to you?
As an extremely introverted, solitary person, modeling has become my primary emotional outlet as well as mode of human interaction. It has quickly become an integral part of my road to self-actualization. Modeling has actually improved my self-esteem and I wear a lot less makeup day-to-day than I used to.
A model you particularly admire?
Audrey Kitching. I’m really inspired by her “homemagicmovies” and how she has a really artistic style that is unique and consistent.
If you could choose, where would you like to shoot?
Currently in the market for a photographer to accompany me on a road trip to the White Sands in New Mexico.
What is your dressing style in everyday life?
I would wear all American Apparel if I could. You’ll usually catch me in black high waisted jeans and a small black top with uber 90’s platform shoes.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I dream of moving to Sweden or Norway, maybe Japan. I found a long, J. Crew, wool coat for $20 at Goodwill, so you know, I’m prepared for the move any day now.
What is happiness?
My happiness comes from living authentically and daily making an effort to become more like the person I imagine myself to be and a person that makes me proud. When I want to try something, I actually do it as opposed to just dreaming about it and this brings me a lot of fulfillment.
Where can we find you on a Friday night?
Either in bed listening to Drake with my cats or on a stage dancing in a club. It’s really one extreme or the other.
What’s your next goal?
My next life goal is to finish my PhD in Pharmaceutics; I just finished my PharmD and that was a huge life milestone for me. With regards to modeling, I aim to be able to bring photographers’ visions to life so well that everyone I work with considers me their muse.
