In a few words, tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is ODIN aka Timo. I was born in Hamburg in March 1977. ODIN is a nickname my teammates gave me (I played handball for a few years) - maybe the red beard is a reason for that 😉 I’m working as a privacy officer in a bank.
How long have you been a photographer?
I started with photography 2,5 years ago, the first half year only with architecture and landscapes. At the end of July 2014 I got the first time a man (and his motorcycle) in front of my camera.
How did you discover photography?
My father tried to excite me early for photography - with moderate success. I thought it was boring. At that time I was ten and I loved my lego. Three years ago I was looking for something that was worth to learn, something to fill my free time with. And because some of my friends are already photographers I thought about photography.
So I tried landscapes and architectures with my 10-year-old Canon EOS 300d. The photos were lousy shit and that wasn’t the fault of the camera. So I visited a workshop and began to watch video tutorials. At the same time I replaced the EOS 300d with a 550d (with a little hope for better photos). Also my handball career ended, so the photography gained more and more importance.
How was your first shooting? What did you shoot?
My first shoot was in the port of Hamburg with a buddy and his Harley. It was just about the harley, but suddenly the focus was on him. I wasn’t intending that, it just happened.
How would you describe your style?
Hmm… difficult. I’m not sure at all if I have a fixed style. I try a lot and then simply decide what I like - intuitively. I’m much in monochrome, but I don’t want to commit me to that.
What does photography mean to you?
First of all photography is very relaxing for me. It is the chance to learn and continue to develop. It is the chance to get to know interesting people and it’s even possible to make new friends. All of these reasons are the perfect mixture for a hobby.
What inspires you?
Hmm… Pictures, music… life. I like images especially in the form of books. Photo books of great photographers are an incredible inspiration.
What would you like to photograph?
In fact I only photograph what I like and I want to continue that. That is what I do at the moment with exciting people.
A photographer you particularly admire?
Peter Lindbergh … He creates images that speak with the viewer in a way which I’ve never seen from any other photographers.
What is happiness?
To do what you like without any restrictions.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
In Iceland. Huh!
What’s your next goal?
I would like to develop, make better photos and would like to understand more about photography. And I want to meet as many great people as I had it in the last 2 years.
