How ould you describe yourself in a few words?
Head in the clouds 24/7, oinks when I laugh (and I laugh a lot), always cold hands, always too late (tell me to come at 7 and I’ll show up at 8.32) and forgets where I put my stuff aaaaall the time.
How long have you been a model?
I’m a real model baby, it’s only been 10 months.
How did you get into modelling?
Well, I had my first photoshoot in a studio in my hometown where I did an internship for two weeks. It was on the other day when one of the photographers had the idea to take pics of me and I really liked the feeling in front of the camera and also the results. I kept going with local TFP shoots and that was fine for a while but sometimes I knew it wasn’t enough. I fell in love with the idea to be a professional model and work for magazines, brands etc., and I started to figure out where to start my career. Being honest it wasn’t easy for me as no agency wanted me with my 5'7 ‘short’ body and I’ve been struggling to get signed for about one and a half years, gosh I’ve been so frustrated by all these rejections, even people around me said it was time to let my dream go. However, I decided that I’m not a quitter and sent the millionth application to a german agency, FAZE Models, which is now my mother agency and the rest is history.
How was your first shooting?
Talking about my first professional test shooting it was an exiting experience to me. It took place in Berlin which is about two and a half hours by bus from my hometown, so I got up very early that day in August. I remember being really nervous, making sure that I was on time, google maps opened and a big bag in my hands. First I got my hair and makeup done at the agency which took some looong ass time (false lashes, 1000 layers of mascara etc.) but as the chatterbox that I am I talked the time away with the also very talkative MUA. I was pretty nervous and unsure if I was already good enough with facial expressions and poses, but I really liked the photographer (stalking me has already looked up his work online), he seemed so relaxed and easy going. The atmosphere was great, so pic after pic I’ve been losing my doubts. We’ve been shooting about seven hours which wasn’t expected but I guess we all got along pretty well so yeah. I remember we went to a place with a public library near so everytime when I changed outfits I needed to use their restroom (people looked at me as if I was an alien the fifth time walking in there lol). At the end of the day, I was exhausted but I’ve tasted blood and was really excited for many other shoots to come.
What does modelling mean to you?
Modelling is a wide field, whether it’s walking runway shows or doing commercial shoots, Beauty or High Fashion, bodyparts or face, there are endless ways in the modelling industry. To me, I’ve never been a classic HF model as I don’t fit the required body standards. I’m more suitable for beauty editorials for magazines or commercial, and I think I do quite well in front of the camera. It’s interesting to see what a bunch of talented Make-Up Artists, stylists, photographers and post producers can do to your physical appearance and attitude. I still look at pics of me three times to make sure if that’s really me. To me photoshoots are fun, you always get to know so many people, listen to their stories and I really enjoy that part of modelling.
Nevertheless, it also showed its dark sides over the past few months. It is an industry which has no space for imperfection and no time for humanity. The fashion world never sleeps and never stops for the weak. You either float with the current or you’re out (unless you’re extremely lucky and find someone who falls in love with your 'imperfections’ and pushes you one step higher on your career
ladder). Unfortunately, brands and designers still prefer only very skinny bodies, which are often unhealthy but even more that system fucks our mental health and conveys wrong values to our society. Also, I fell too deep into all that superficial shit, right now I’m recovering from an eating disorder and basically from self-hate which is why I’m giving modelling a little break right now. Anyone who says skinny models are so 90’s is not so right. Even though the attention for plus size or curvy models is raising (which is an improvement!!), models are either super fit, toned and skinny or have a perfect feminine hourglass shape and to me that doesn’t represent diversity! They always seem flawlessly gorgeous and superior to non-models. Let me just say that 99% of the time not even we look like the models in the ads we see every day. 2 hours of doing our makeup, an extra hour for hair, the fanciest clothes, perfect lighting and – yes of course – photoshop. Most of the time I wake up looking like Edward Scissorhands so don’t worry, we’re all human.
A model you particularly admire?
Emily Bador. She’s been a true inspiration for me, gave me hope in body positivity and self-love plus she is extremely gorgeous and nobody looks similar to her. Love her freckles, face, fringe and intention. She’s booked because of her uniqueness, for being herself and that’s what I call successful.
If you could choose, where would you like to shoot?
At the sea, with wind in my hair and salty water on my skin.
What is your dressing style in everyday life?
Rocking vintage 80’s and 90’s stuff, faux fur, sneakers or boots. I always like a freaky accessory, such as my heart shaped pink sunnies. Chokers are a must!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
If there’s a free treehouse in the rainforest with a view onto a waterfall just message me I’ll be there by tomorrow!
What is Happiness?
To be truly at peace with yourself and what you do. And if you’re not, chocolate will help.
Where can we find you on a Friday night?
If I’m not with my friends I’m probably having a date with my TV and 20 episodes of Sex and the City.
What’s your next goal?
My number one goal is always to love myself and treat myself for good mental and physical health. For now, I aim to learn Italian as I’m staying in Sardinia for the next three months.
