It is interesting to hear the same story but told through two different people, and how the various interpretations can alter a simple storyline. The story gains dimensions and complexity giving the audience something to compare and contrast. The differences might be subtle to some and quite drastic for others. In this case, the story being told is a model. The same model in the same setting, but told through a female and male photographer’s perspective.
But first, a back story, Carsten Thun (@carsontuna) and Maria Kotylevskaja (@oohbabyiminlove) met in Hamburg Germany living in the same building. Thun, a talented photographer who’s specialty lies in photographing dancers in positions that are comment dit-on ‘elastic’, and Kotylevskaja, a skilled and petite dancer herself, were a natural pair. The two started off their working relationship that way, Thun photographing Kotylevskaja in her daring positions in their building. Later Kotylevskaja, who was undoubtedly inspired by her work with Thun and her love of dancing, stepped behind the camera. While Thun’s work revolves around capturing the dancer at the height of her pose, Kotylevskaja seems to captures the moments either gearing up for the pose or falling out of it afterward in a natural and sensual way.
In the pair’s most recent collaboration, they both set out to photograph the same subject, beautiful dancer Emilija Wellbrock (@elli_rock) in the same apartment. The two sets are both strong enough to stand on their own, but also complement the other splendidly.
