In a few words, tell us a little bit about yourself?
First of all, I’m not Russian, I’m Filipino. My parents liked the name Vladimir and decided to give it to me. I grew up in the Philippines and moved the US starting high school in NY state. I have dual citizenship US & Philippines.
How long have you been a photographer?
I bought my digital camera in 2009 and have been shooting non-stop ever since.
How did you discover photography?
A couple of semesters at university. After I graduated, I didn’t pick up a camera until I bought my DSLR.
How was your first shooting? What did you shoot?
I photographed a local model. We went around town and took fun shots guerilla style.
How would you describe your style?
I’ve been shooting with natural light, documentary style in the past year. I think it’s still evolving.
What does photography mean to you?
I don’t know what I would be doing without photography. Probably be really depressed. It makes me happy (see below).
What inspires you?
Seeing good work. Travel also inspires me creatively. Beauty.
What would you like to photograph?
I like to shoot in unique locations with different textures of light and shadow, and with beautiful models of course.
A photographer you particularly admire?
I’ve been noticing the work of Viktor Vauthier and Glen Luchford. I also like everything from Greg Kadel and Peter Lindbergh.
What is happiness?
Photography
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I’ve been living in Santa Monica for over 10 years and quite happy here. That may change because now I’m looking for a bigger place.
What’s your next goal?
Keep working on my craft. Assemble my creative team. I plan on shooting in studio again soon.
