How would you describe yourself in a few words?
Creative, clumsy, caring & independent.
How long have you been a model?
I’ve been modelling for about four years now.
How did you get into modelling?
I remember dressing up in my mother’s clothing and pretty shoes when I was just a toddler. I loved to practice my cat-walk down the hallways of our homes. But it wasn’t until I was an early teen, and nearly six feet tall that people began to approach me and tell me that I’d be good for the business. I only daydreamed about it, until one day at work a customer of mine asked if I would model in their fashion show. I think I was hooked after the first time I ever sat down to have my hair & makeup done.
How was your first shooting? Tell us a bit about that first experience.
My very first photo shoot was much different than runway modelling. Instead of the adrenaline of a quick runway show, I felt nervous - having to calm myself down long enough to focus on my body, and communicate with the photographer about poses. My first shoots are awful. There is so much room for growth in this industry, that’s why I love it.
What does modelling mean to you?
Modelling to me is a creative expression. It’s storytelling. It’s an outlet for me. I’m not at my best unless I’m making and doing and creating. The people I’ve met and the things I’ve learned about myself through modelling are invaluable.
A model you particularly admire?
Marisa Papen
If you could choose, where would you like to shoot?
A black sand beach. European rooftops. The James Goldstein House.
What is your dressing style in everyday life?
I wear lots of black. I don’t like wearing bras. On any given day, you’ll most likely find me wearing a pair of high-waisted black jeans with some converse. I especially like mixing thrifted clothing with high-end pieces. But I like getting dolled up as much as the next girl.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
There are so many places I have yet to see before I could answer that with conviction. But I crave heat. I think I would be quite at home somewhere in the Mediterranean. For now, I have few complaints with Vancouver. We are spoiled with the natural scenery here.
What is happiness?
Happiness to me is an amalgamation of things: travelling, exploring, forming meaningful relationships with good people, eating amazing food and loving oneself.
Where can we find you on a Friday night?
On a Friday night, I’m usually winding down from work with a movie or a D.I.Y. project at home.
What’s your next goal?
Travel. Learn more languages. Go as many places as I can to take photos and have photos taken of me.
